Up for auction is a Scarce Signed Association Copy of thefirst book by Hunter S. Thompson, Hell’s Angels: The Strange and Terrible Saga of the OutlawMotorcycle Gangs. NY: Random House, 1967. 278 pages.Second printing. Signed on the frontflyleaf by outlaw biker and founder of the Oakland chapter of the Hells AngelsMotorcycle Club, Ralph “Sonny” Barger (1938-1922). As the central figure in the book, Thompsonreferred to Barger as “the Maximum Leader” of the Hells Angels, describing himas “a 6-foot, 170-pound warehouseman from East Oakland, the coolest head in thelot, and a tough, quick thinking dealer when any action starts…he is a fanatic,a philosopher, a brawler, a shrewd compromiser and a final arbitrator.” Includes a small autograph authentication stickerby Beckett Authentication on the reverse of the signed page. Barger was reluctant and often times refusedto sign editions of Thompson’s book, thus signed copies are exceeding rare andalmost impossible to find. Bound inblack woven cloth in dust jacket which retains the original publisher price of$4.95 inside the front flap.
