Coastal residents were advised by the weather bureau to head for higher ground as 35 foot waves in some sections driven inland by the 100 mile an hour gusts, inundated city streets. Emergency status was declared for parts of Rhode Island. Connecticut and Massachusetts. Damage has been set in the millions and the death toll still was climbing. Photo measures 8.75 x 7.75 inches.
