The product is an original antique cast iron sign from the ROBINS CONVEYING BELT Co. Circa 1891 to 1920


Robins Conveying Belt Company was, an important name in the history of conveyor technology. The company was founded by Thomas Robins Jr., who invented the modern heavy-duty conveyor belt in 1891. This invention won the grand prize at the 1900 Paris Exposition.


  • Founded:The company, initially known as Robins Conveying Belt Co., was formed based on Thomas Robins Jr.'s inventions.

  • Innovations:Robins and his company pioneered the use of conveyor belts for various materials beyond grain and incorporated engineering knowledge into the conveyor business. They were the first to develop a heavy-duty conveyor belt capable of transporting materials like coal and ore. The company also patented the three-roll idler design in 1896.

  • Influence:The first Robins-designed conveyor was installed at Thomas Edison's iron ore mine in New Jersey. The company published the first belt engineering handbook, the "Handbook of Conveyor Practice", in 1917, which included many innovations and engineering principles.

  • This sign, measures approx 22 inches wide and 15 inches tall. It was manufactured in the United States during the early 1900s. The is an historic sign as it was for a very early model of the modern conveyor belt. What makes it more interesting It was a team effort between Thomas Edison and Robins to greatly improve the available mining conveyor technology

This sign is a piece of advertising and mining memorabilia that represents a bygone era of American industry, specifically in the mining and engineering sectors.
