Frederick Bayard Elton was born on 6 August 1811 in Bristol, Gloucestershire, England, to Isaac Elton, aged 40, and Catherine Bayard, aged 41. On 5 March 1839, he married Mary Elizabeth Elton in Southampton, Hampshire, England. Together, they had at least one son.

By 1851, Frederick was living in Yattendon, Berkshire, and he later spent approximately ten years in Clifton St Andrew, Gloucestershire. He passed away on 4 October 1878 in Bristol, Gloucestershire, at the age of 67, and was laid to rest in Wraxall, Somerset, England.
