It is subordinate to the 4th Special Intelligence Service of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine. The regiment headquarters is in Kropyvnytskyi. It is part of the Joint Rapid Reaction Forces.
The regiment was formed on June 3, 1998 on the basis of the 10th Separate Special Purpose Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine as the 1st Separate Special Purpose Regiment, and on September 7, 2000 it became the 3rd Regiment. In 2018, the regiment was named after the Kyiv Prince Svyatoslav Igorevich the Brave.
