Knight of the Confederacy: Gen Turner Ashby signed by author Frank Cunningham
Turner Ashby was "one of the most brilliant generals developed on either side during the war," according to the New York Herald's famed correspondent John Laird Wilson. This dashing and daring cavalry officer became Stonewall Jackson's eyes and ears,and has been credited for part of the success of Jackson's Valley Campaign.
Jackson in his official report said, "for most of the previous twelve months, will justify me in saying that as a partisan officer I never knew his superior. His daring was proverbial, his tone of character heroic, his power of endurance almost incredible."
Frank Cunningham was the author of number of Civil War books including Stand Watie's Confederate Indians. The book is a presentation copy signed by Cunningham on January 21, 1961. 225 pages.21 photographs.
