Rare Vintage Tlaquepaque Lidded Pot Set 1930s Cobalt Blue & Mid-Century Green:
$220.00

Up for sale is a stunning, highly curated nesting pair of authentic, hand-painted Tlaquepaque Redware (Barro Rojo) Bean Pots (Ollas Frijoleras) from Jalisco, Mexico. Rather than a standard matching set, this duo represents a beautiful historical timeline of Mexican folk art. It features an incredibly rare, early 20th-century artisan piece paired with a classic mid-century companion. Both pots come complete with their original, matching hand-painted lids. The Anchor Piece: Medium Pre-War Cobalt Blue Pot (c. 1920s–1940s)This unmarked medium pot is a true collector’s item. Unlike the flooded market of green tourist pottery, this piece features a rare, striking cobalt blue rosette. During this early era, blue mineral pigments were premium, scarce, and reserved for specialized local pieces. The complete absence of an export stamp indicates this was crafted for local Mexican markets before international customs regulations standardized designs for the tourist trade. The Companion Piece: Small Mid-Century Green Pot (c. 1950s–1960s)Stamped with the traditional "Mexico" mark, this small pot beautifully captures the peak of Mexico’s mid-century tourist export boom. It features the iconic, vibrant green-leaf "Bandera" palette that became a beloved staple of Southwest and Mexican-American kitchen decor. Quantity: 2 Lidded Pots (4 Pieces Total)Sizes: 1 Medium, 1 Small (Perfect for a staggered nesting display)Material: Low-fire red earthenware clay with traditional hand-painted mineral slips. Both pieces are in good vintage condition with wonderful visual appeal. They show honest, age-appropriate wear and a few chips typical of low-fired clay pottery that is 50 to 100 years old. Please see all pictures for close-up details of the condition. Note: Due to the traditional, low-fire lead glazes historically used in mid-century and pre-war Mexican redware, these pots are being sold strictly as decorative folk art, centerpieces, or display items, and should not be used to cook or store food.
