TheLing-Temco-Vought A-7 Corsair IIwas a carrier-capable subsonic lightattack aircraftintroduced to replace theDouglas A-4 Skyhawk. The A-7 airframe design was based on the successfulsupersonicVought F-8 Crusader. It was one of the first combat aircraft to feature ahead-up display(HUD), aninertial navigation system(INS), and aturbofanengine.

The Corsair II initially entered service with theUnited States Navyduring theVietnam War. It was later adopted by theUnited States Air Force, including theAir National Guard, to replace theDouglas A-1 Skyraider,North American F-100 Super SabreandRepublic F-105 Thunderchief.The aircraft was also exported toGreecein the 1970s, andPortugalin the late 1980s.
