This limited edition vintage Judaica assemblage art piece was hand-made in 1983 by the British artist David of London at The Dutch Barn in Essex, UK. A certificate of authenticity is included on the back.
Entitled "Good Sabbath," the professionally-framed artpiece portrays a synagogue scene with a Jewish cantor or rabbi at a pulpit, holding a Torah scroll that features Hebrew text of the Ten Commandments.
It is a "Horological Montage," a unique piece of mixed-media art made by arranging recycled mechanical clock and watch components (such as gears, hands, dials, and springs) over a traditional hand-drawn drawing.
The use of clock gears often represents the progression of time and the sanctity of "Shabbat," the Jewish day to "pause" or step outside the gears of everyday work.
This artwork is associated with the Steampunk aesthetic due to its mechanical and industrial components parts.
The picture measures 15.5"H x 13.5"W x 1"D and weighs 1 lb.
It is in excellent condition.
David of London is well-known for his depictions of London landmarks like Big Ben or Tower Bridge. Artwork featuring Judaica and landmark themes are his most sought-after pieces. Those with their original Certificate of Authenticity tend to command the higher end of the price range.
