1918 Letter Mystic Workers of the World, Ottawa Illinois A Schoch Supreme Banker:

Letter dated December 6th, 1918,from A.F. Schoch, Supreme Banker to Raymond Spencer, Ringwood, IL. Mr. Schoch was "Supreme Banker" for the Mystic Workers of the World, a "Fraternal Benefit Society." Their home office was Fulton, Illinois. Originally founded in 1892 by G. W. Clendenen Mystic Workers of the World's practical purpose was health and life insurance benefits for members and their families. They held formal meetings which were ritualistic and secretive. Eventually Mystic Workers of the World abandoned the rituals and reorganized as the Fidelity Life Association in 1930. This particular letter said "enclosed herewith find..." a draft for $1000.
An example of the opening for their initiation ritual in 1925 is:
The Prefect calls the lodge to order with one rap of the gavel. The officers will assume their respective stations and the members be seated. Each officer rises when he is addressed and is seated when his replies are completed or his duties performed.
PREFECT:Worthies, the Mystic hour approaches. It is my will that this Lodge now be opened. If any present are not members, they will please rise and be vouched for while the officers take their stations.Pause. The Prefect fills any vacancies and proceeds.
PREFECT:Worthy Warder, you will see that the Sentinel is in his place.
WARDER:Worthy Prefect, the Sentinel is in his place and your orders will be obeyed.
PREFECT, * * *, calls up the Lodge:Worthy Marshal and assistant, ascertain if all present are qualified to remain...
