3 Nice Decoration Day Antique Patriotic Postcards. 1909 era. 2 are set.

This is a nice group of PATRIOTIC antique postcards from the very early 1900s. They were published for GREETINGS as well as Best Wishes, and they were to be used for Decoration / Memorial Day celebrations. The postcards are colorful with USA flags and patriotic symbols. Two of the postcards are a set one with a pretty lady as a soldier, and another with a pretty lady along with two military people. There is one with the USA flag, a GOLD wreath in the background along with a Civil War soldier. This postcard is EMBOSSED and has GOLD trim in the design, and it has an UNDIVIDED back.

The postcards have nice patriotic messages. These arecollector itemsbecause of their age, their colorful design, and their overall appeal to those collecting Patriotic antique postcards. They also have a nice glimpse of life back in that era.

History.com gives the following information for Decoration Day.By proclamation of General John A. Logan of the Grand Army of the Republic, the first majorMemorial Dayobservance is held to honor those who died “in defense of their country during the late rebellion.” Known to some as “Decoration Day,” mourners honored theCivil Wardead by decorating their graves with flowers. On the first Decoration Day, General James Garfield, who later became President, made a speech atArlington National Cemetery, after which 5,000 participants helped to decorate the graves of the more than 20,000 Civil War soldiers buried in the cemetery. By the late 19th century, many communities across the country had begun to celebrate Memorial Day, and afterWorld War I, observers began to honor the dead of all of America’s wars. In 1971, Congress declared Memorial Day a national holiday to be celebrated the last Monday in May.

The postcards are UNPOSTED (1) and POSTED (2) with cancel dates of 1909. These postcards were probably "Printed in Germany" during the "Golden Age of Postcards" (1908-1915 era).

These are BETTER POSTCARD and good for a collector. The postcards will keep their value! They are sleeved and in good condition. However, please expect some creases, cuts, stains, paper toning, and edge wear due to their age (over 100 years old!).The photos show the postcards and the backs.
