AMERICAN REVOLUTIONARY WAR BOND CONNECTICUT 1783 For Sale

The Revolutionary War ended in 1783 and many of the men had been only partially paid for their years of service. The State of Connecticut issued interest bearing bonds to raise funds to pay the veterans and also for the prodigious amounts of supplies purchased during the War. An Original State of Connecticut Treasury Office Receipt issued in December 1783 for the receipt of 15 pounds 8 shillings of Mr Solomon Ganes of Haddam which they promise to pay "by the 29th day of December, 1785 being for services in 1782 with the interest of 6 per cent per Annum which interest shall be paid in gold or silver agreeable to the Directions of the General Assembly". The Bond is signed by John Lawrence who was the Treasurer of State of Connecticut during the Revolutionary War.The reverse is signed by the bearer, Solomon Ganes and also signed by William Lawrence, Richard Butler and Micah Jenkins on the dates from 1784 to 1785 to to 1787 showing the amounts of interest paid. The large punch hole in the bond was made to void the note after it had been paid off by the State. The note has age stains and wrinkles but Overall Good Condition. Solomon Ganes answered the Lexington Alarm in 1775 with Major Nathaniel Terry and the Enfield Minute Men but had brief service and did not see combat.
