Antique Mettlach Villeroy and Boch Beer Stein Etched Musical Theme #2094 c.1894
Description: This absolutely fantastic beer stein was made by Villeroy and Boch in Mettlach in the year of 1902. It is made in etched technique, creating a wonderful effect - the most famous Mettlach etched technique was never matched by any other manufacturer.
The stein is dedicated to music - it shows a group of musicians in Renaissance clothes playing various musical instruments and people dancing, drinking and flirting.
The lid also shows a musical theme - the inlay is decorated with musical symbols - clefs - two treble clefs and a bass clef. Most likely the stein was intended for people of music profession as an occupational stein. It is engraved with a presentation inscription: "University Athletic Club Christmas Jubilee 1894 Ale Mug". Apparently, a number of these steins were imported to America and engraved to dedicate a certain event - an Athletic Club jubilee.
The stein is fully marked on the bottom with incised Mettlach tower mark, mold number 2094 and "94" for the date of manufacturing 1894.
The stein is in excellent condition - no chips or cracks, clean interior.
It is very elegant and impressive, 8" tall, 0.5 L capacity.
