Misch was selected in 1941 to be the GermanChancellor\'sbodyguard and communications specialist and he personally traveled with theChancelloracross the Reich to his different field headquarters and to Berlin. Toward the end of the War, Misch spent the last 100 days of the Third Reich in the Bunker in Berlin with the Chancellor. In the final days, even after most of theChancellor\'sinner circle had fled the Bunker, Misch stayed behind until after the suicide of theChancellorbefore he attempted to break out of the Russian lines surrounding Berlin. After the War, Misch explained remaining at his post with theChancelloras \"a matter of duty\" and never questioned his loyalty to theChancellorhe fondly called \"The Boss\". During the breakout, he was captured by the Russians and spent 9 years in a Russian POW Camp enduring torture before going home.
