Homebrew 1920\'s Crystal Radio
with Interesting Type Crystal Detector Holder,
in Nicely Constructed Mahogany Case
ITEM DETAILS
Please see the photos, which comprise the bulk of the description. As you can see, this is another great old 1920\'s crystal radio. Although I\'m knowledgeable on 1920s radios, the crystal set is out of my wheelhouse. I don\'t know how they work, nor how to make them work! So this is as-is, and you get to figure out how to get it to play. Fun!
This is obviously home-made by a hobbyist, using commercially available as well as homemade components. The wooden cabinet appears to be made of mahogany and is well crafted.
The detector holder is especially interesting. It consists of a bakelite cylinder, threaded on both ends, containing a spring and a piece of galena crystal, and held together by metal end caps that apply pressure to the spring as it contacts the crystal. I took it apart years ago when I found this set and noted at that time that the bakelite appeared fragile. So I didn\'t want to risk taking it apart for photos at this time.
In any event, it\'s small and well-constructed, and displays well.
