Huge Antique American Copper Pot, with Iron handles, and marked “MUTUAL N.Y. CITY 20 CATHERINE ST.” as well as “PIERRE”.
A very rare and massive antique copper pot from the early 20th Century. Nice patina, many signs of use, and overall decent condition given its age.
Embossed marking just below the outside rim states "MUTUAL N.Y. CITY 20 CATHERINE ST.". The opposing outer side is embossed with “PIERRE” (which likely refers to the famous New York City hotel that overlooks Central Park).
Both iron handles are tight with no movement. One handle is quite long (at 14 ¾”) and is attached by 3 large rivets. That handle’s underside has a marking which appears to be "D.d. & M.C0.". The opposing grip-type handle is attached by 4 large rivets.
Dimensions: Length overall, handle-to-handle, = 32 ½”. Width (rim-to-rim inside diameter) = 14 ¾”. Height = 11”. Capacity = 8 gallons. Total empty weight: a hefty 27.5 pounds.
There are dents on rim and scrapes inside and out. The pot sits flat quite solidly and holds water without leaks. The base shows much denting, with repairs to two sections along the base’s edge. Nonetheless, this is a wonderful piece of Americana.
This item is offered for sale “As Is’, in the condition shown in the photos.
