Legends of Space History of American Space Flight Die Cast Miniatures Set NEW:
$19.99

Thank you for shopping
Offered for sale is this spaceflight miniatures set by Echo Toys
  • Legends of Space Countdown to Adventure History of American Spaceflight
  • Ten (10) die-cast miniatures depicting historical spacecraft and rockets from American history
  • X-15 rocket plane...last flown in 1968, flew to the edge of space, still holds the speed record for a crewed, powered aircraft
  • X-20 Dyna-Soar...a discontinued project for a small spacecraft that would launch into space on top of a rocket, perform activities in low Earth orbit, then re-enter and land like an airplane
  • X-24A Lifting Body...lifting bodies were experimental aircraft that were used to test and gather information for possible re-entry and landing scenarios...this data was later used in the space shuttle program
  • Orbiter Enterprise...before any shuttle ever flew into space, the orbiter Enterprise was built to test its atmospheric flight and landing capabilities, it was carried to altitude on the back of a modified 747 and launched, being flown back to Earth by a test crew
  • NASA X-38...an experimental re-entry vehicle designed by NASA but canceled due to budget cuts...was to have been an emergency rescue vehicle used to carry astronauts back to Earth safely from the International Space Station
  • Mercury Redstone...the rocket that launched the first manned missions into space
  • Gemini Titan...Much more powerful than the Redstone, the Titan was a repurposed ballistic missile used to launch men into space during the 2-man Gemini missions
  • Apollo Saturn V...the most powerful rocket ever launched successfully, carried men to the moon from 1968-1972
  • Space Transport System (STS), or Space Shuttle...Launched like a rocket, flown back to Earth to land like an airplane, the Space Shuttle flew 135 times, including the tragic failures of the Challenger and Columbia that resulted in the loss of their crews
  • Space Launch System (SLS)...still in development...the next generation of manned spaceflight, designed to launch larger, capsule-type spacecraft
  • All miniatures are in excellent condition
  • Original box shows several dings and shelf wear but is mostly intact (I rate it at about 75-80%)
