ABOUT THE ITEM꞉ This is a vintage “manufacturer-to-dealership” correspondence from the famous Reo Motor Car Company of Lansing, Michigan. ABOUT THE REO MOTOR CAR COMPANY, LANSING, MICHIGAN꞉ In August 1904, Ransom Eli Olds founded the R.E. Olds Motor Car Company, which shortly thereafter changed its name to REO Motor Car Company. The company constructed complex for production of automobiles. An office building and a factory were undertaken immediately; construction was completed in 1905. Business accelerated and Olds added another story to the factory followed by three smaller factory buildings. In 1908, an engineering building was added and in 1914 another large factory. An employee clubhouse was added in 1917.By 1907, the company was actually one of the top four brands in the United States; however, the company\'s inclusion at the top slowly faded as giants such as Ford and General Motors gained market share. Reo added a truck line in 1910, but still remained small compared to its competitors. Olds turned over management of the company to his protegee Richard H. Scott in 1915, and the REO brand remained small but profitable through 1925. Over the next decade, the Great Depression and a series of ill-advised decisions caused the company serious financial problems. In 1936 the company abandoned automobiles in favor of truck production. During World War II, the demand for trucks staved off the inevitable - - for a period of time. In 1954 Reo was sold to the Bohn Aluminum and Brass Corporation (which later become part of the White Motor Company). In 1967 it merged with Diamond T Trucks to form Diamond Reo Trucks. In 1975 the firm declared bankruptcy. By the early 1980, Reo\'s buildings were razed. ABOUT DRESCHER SCOTT AUTO COMPANY, CALDWELL, TEXAS꞉ Caldwell, Texas is a small town located approximately 60-miles east of Austin, Texas. In 1920, its population was listed at 1,689 people. One-hundred years later (2020) it\'s population is a little more than double what it was in 1920. We had a difficult time locating a business in Caldwell, Texas by the name of “Drescher-Scott Auto Company.” We located numerous advertisements for \"Drescher\'s Garage:\" An advertisement on Page 2 of the April 11, 1919 edition of the Burleson County Ledger and News-Chronical announced \"We have opened a First Class Automobile Garage in the Piwetz Building on the square, and will be pleased to do your auto repairing. Bring in your car. No matter what make it is we will repair it for you. All work first class. We rebuild or recharge your batteries. We also have tires and tubes, gasoline, oil and accessories. My Blacksmith Shop on the same block will do your work in this line and satisfy you. Phone 277. Ed Drescher.\" But that wasn\'t the exact company we were looking for. Finally, there it was! An advertisement on Page 2 of the May 2, 1919 edition of the Burleson County Ledger and News-Chronical announcing: “REOs. Our Car of Reo\'s are here. So if you want your Reo you had better come early or they will be gone. We also have the Harroun and Briscoe cars on our floor at all times and will be pleased to give you a Demonstration at any time. Write or wire us. Reo, f.o.b. Lansing, Mich. $1,395. Harroun, f.o.b. Detroit, Mich. $1,025. Briscoe, f.o.b. Jackson, Mich. $855. Drescher-Scot Auto Company. Caldwell, Texas.\"It appears the Drescher-Scott Auto Company was short lived. We reviewed approximately 25 more 1919 editions of the Burleson County Ledger and News-Chronical and found no additional advertising for Drescher-Scott.
