Alongside his role as a messenger, Hermes is also regarded as the patron of traffic, travelers, merchants, and shepherds. In Roman mythology, he is associated with the god Mercury. The sculpture is signed under the frame on the lower right "COPYRIGHT 1884 A. E. & CO." It weighs 13 pounds and measures 25" high x 12" wide showing no damage or repairs.
