I am pleased to offer a vintage German Beer Stein with a unique lithopane in the bottom. The stein measures 8-1/4" tall and is 4-1/2" at the widest point. The sides show a romantic outdoor scene with a man playing music for his lady. They are seated in front of a lovely stone home with a small animal laying at their feet. The lid features a floral motif.
Hidden in the bottom of the piece is a lithopane featuring arisque', full-body pose of a nude woman.
A lithopane is an etched or molded artwork in translucent porcelain that can only be seen clearly when back lit with a light source. It presents a three-dimensional image, as moldedin this stein.
Condition:
This piece is in good condition showing no cracks or chips to the porcelain. The pewter lid does have same damage next to the hinge. The detailed scene is bright and clear, as well as the lithopane when held to light. This interesting conversation piece displays very well and would make a nice addition to any collection.
