Up for sale is a beautiful, highly collectible antique Keuffel & Esser (K&E) surveying transit level. This turn-of-the-century precision instrument is an incredible piece of American engineering history, retaining its original fitted mahogany carrying box, leather strap handle, plumb bob, and detachable sunshade attachment.
The interior door features the original, intact paper manufacturer label identifying the historic 127 Fulton St. & 42 Ann St., New York headquarters, dating this specific instrument from the late 1890s to the early 1910s era.
Condition Report:
Cosmetic: Beautiful, untouched condition with a rich, dark aged brass/bronze patina. The metal has not been polished or aggressively cleaned in order to preserve its historical integrity and value for collectors.
The leather strap has broken off.
Mechanical / Mechanical Controls: The telescope adjustments, thumb screws, and structural components are all intact. The level vials are present.
Wood Case: The solid mahogany box shows standard signs of historical wear, surface scuffs, and age-related character as shown. The original hardware and fitted interior blocks remain sturdy and secure.
