Galatasaray High School is an institution established in the very heart and one of the most beautiful locations of Beyoğlu, Istanbul. The building in which the school is located has been known as Galata Palace (Galata Sarayı) since 1481.When we examine the historical development of the educational institutions that operated under the name Galatasaray on this site and in these buildings, three distinct periods emerge:The Enderun period -The Imperial School of Medicine period -The Mekteb-i Sultani / Galatasaray High School period.Within the Mekteb-i Sultani, a university known as Darülfünun-ı Sultani was also established and operated between 1874 and 1881.
As can be seen, these institutions, all devoted to education and all bearing the name Galatasaray, occupied the same site where the present-day high school building stands. Therefore, there is a continuous historical legacy extending from 1481 to the present day.In this respect, the successive educational institutions of Galatasaray have always been conscious of the value inherent in their deeply rooted history. They have continually benefited from the advantages and prestige bestowed by this heritage, and continue to do so today.
