Gettysburg: Tipton & Blocher, 1924.Illustrated early-20th-century guide to the Gettysburg battlefield by L. W. Minnigh, identified on the title page as a Gettysburg battlefield guide and expositor. Published for visitors to Gettysburg, the book combines a detailed narrative of the battle with battlefield maps, photographs, illustrations, troop and monument information, and period material relating to the historic site.Of particular interest is the large folding “Battlefield of Gettysburg, July 1st, 2nd and 3rd, 1863” map, printed in black and red and showing Union and Confederate positions, roads, terrain, artillery and troop locations. The map was copyrighted by Tipton & Blocher in 1912 and measures approximately 11 × 16 1/2 inches when opened.The colorful pictorial wrappers feature portraits of Maj. Gen. George G. Meade and Gen. Robert E. Lee with a view of the battlefield at Pickett’s Charge.
