THE MANCHESTER & ONEIDA RAILWAY, 1901–1951 By Frank P. Donovan, Jr.

An uncommon illustrated history of the Manchester & Oneida Railway, a small American short-line railway in Iowa which operated between Manchester and Oneida from 1901 until 1951.
This is a hardback copy in dark blue boards with gilt lettering to the front. The book contains 48 numbered pages together with appendices, and includes period railway photographs and historical material concerning the line, its locomotives, operation and local significance.
Of particular interest, this copy bears the ownership signature of noted British railway historian and author George Dow, dated 1958, written in his characteristic green ink. It therefore comes from Dow’s personal railway library and has additional provenance beyond that of an ordinary copy.
Condition is very good internally. The pages are clean, sound and securely bound, with the photographs and printed material presenting well.
Externally, the blue boards show some age-related wear, including several small white surface marks to the front cover. The upper left corner, viewed from the front, is slightly crushed or bumped, as shown clearly in the photographs. There is no dust jacket.
A scarce and appealing item for collectors of American railway history, Iowa railways, short-line railroads, Frank P. Donovan, or George Dow and his personal library.
