Original French advertising matchcover produced for AC-Delco and General Motors (France), dating to approximately the mid-1960s. The colorful exterior combines AC and Delco spark-plug graphics with a striking French pin-up illustration signed Brenot, while the reverse carries French distributor advertising, “Création calendriers Jean Lavigne,” and the Publicitas-Publistip name and Paris address. This is an empty French pochette d’allumettes rather than a conventional American stapled matchbook; no matches remain, the striker is unstruck, and no staple holes or evidence of a conventional stapled match comb are present.
The signed artwork connects this small piece of automotive advertising with Pierre-Laurent Brenot, one of France\'s notable postwar commercial illustrators and a figure particularly associated with French pin-up art. AC-Delco was using Brenot\'s pin-up work in French advertising by the mid-1960s—a 1964 AC Delco promotional calendar is documented with four Brenot illustrations. Together with the French-language General Motors advertising and unusual match-pouch construction, this cover preserves an interesting intersection of mid-century automotive promotion, French commercial illustration, and match advertising.
