Antique Victorian Brass Letter Caddy / Stationery BoxBeautiful and unusual antique brass desktop letter caddy or stationery box featuring elaborate raised floral, foliate and scroll decoration.The curved hinged lid opens to reveal a fitted wooden interior with multiple vertical compartments designed for organizing letters, correspondence and stationery.The brass exterior has developed a rich, naturally aged dark patina, while protected areas on the interior retain a noticeably brighter gold/brass color. The metal is completely non-magnetic when tested with a strong magnet. The piece weighs approximately 1 lb 12.2 oz.Measures approximately 9” wide × 3½” deep × 6” high.The design and construction are consistent with Victorian/Victorian Revival letter and stationery caddies. No maker’s mark or inscription has been located, so the exact manufacturer and date are unknown. Based on its construction and appearance, it is believed to date from the late 19th to early 20th century.A March 1, 2013 Naples Daily News “Treasures in Your Attic” article concerning a similar decorative metal chest was kept with this piece and will be included with the purchase. The chest discussed in that article was associated with Max Le Verrier; this letter caddy is unmarked and is not being represented as a Max Le Verrier piece.Good antique/vintage condition with naturally occurring patina, oxidation, surface wear and other signs of age and use. The wooden compartmented interior remains intact.
