Single Pack of the BreaKey One Piece Expansion – Upper Deck Germany – 2003
A seriously unusual piece of early-2000s collectible gaming history!
Released in Germany by Upper Deck in 2003, BreaKey was a bizarre collectible game where players actually battled by permanently breaking plastic key pieces. This One Piece-themed expansion features characters from the early era of the series, including characters associated with arcs such as Romance Dawn and Arlong Park.
How BreaKey Worked
Players would select their specialized plastic keys, which featured images of monsters, anime characters, or other collectible designs. Two players would interlock their keys and twist them against each other.
The catch? One of the keys would permanently snap and break! The key that survived the duel was declared the winner.
Once broken, the key was essentially out of the game — making every battle a literal test of strength, luck, and willingness to sacrifice your collectibles!
