Antique/vintage Italian Carabinieri Reali Model 1814/34 foot saber, also known as a Carabinieri briquet or daga. This distinctive military pattern features a curved single-edge blade, one-piece ribbed brass hilt with knuckle guard, and black leather scabbard with brass fittings.The blade is stamped “CA” at the ricasso. Blade measures approximately 23 1/4 inches from guard to tip. Overall sword length is approximately 29 1/4 inches.Includes the accompanying black leather scabbard with brass throat and tip/chape. The surviving scabbard is an especially nice addition, as antique military swords are frequently encountered without their original-type scabbards.Condition: The blade has substantial age-related oxidation, dark patina, surface rust and pitting. Brass hilt and scabbard fittings show age, oxidation, scratches and wear. Leather scabbard has significant age-related surface wear, cracking/deterioration and loss but remains substantially intact with its brass fittings present.An interesting surviving example of the long-serving edged weapon associated with Italy’s historic Arma dei Carabinieri and an appealing piece for an Italian military, Carabinieri, antique sword or European militaria collection.
