Rare Los Angeles, California Stereoview of Traffic Jam on Downey Block - 1872 For Sale

This somewhat rare stereoview,taken from the Temple Block looking north, is positively dated to 1872. It was likely taken by local photographer William M. Godfrey. Near center is signage for "Levy & Coblentz", wholesale liquor and tobacco merchants. At right, on the east side of Main Street, the three-story building is the Bella Union Hotel.Left of the hotel is the Pico Building, where a barber pole advertises the barber's location.
