Salute Tribute to Courage 1941 British War Relief Society WWII Battle Britain For Sale

Extremely rare War Relief magazine produced to fundraise for England as they hold off the Nazis awaiting the entry of United States into the warlSalute, a magazine published by the British War Relief Society, made its appearance here yesterday and will be distributed at 25 cents a copy by 1,000 offices of the society throughout the United States and by book stores in this and other large cities.
Subtitled “A Tribute to Courage," the magazine consists of seventy-two glossy pages with front and back covers and contains articles, fiction, comment and cartoons by prominent writers and cartoonists. A special section contains news and reports of the British War Relief Society.
The magazine was edited by Mrs. Louise Glemser, former London newspaper writer and editor, who has been in this country for a year with her 3-year-old son. Her husband, Bernard Glemser, is with the British Broadcasting Company in London.
Mrs. Glemser said that the magazine had been planned as an experiment, and that if, the initial response in orders and advertising continued, it would probably be issued as a quarterly. There were orders for 10,000 copies yesterday, she said, and more copies will be printed.
Franklin D. Roosevelt, Viscount Halifax, British Ambassador to the United States, Governor Lehman and Newbold Morris, President of the City Council.
Featuring it as an "exclusive," the magazine publishes a facsimile "Last Will and Testament" by Edith Cavell, written as a letter to her family on Aug. 19, 1914, which was found in the papers of a German general who died just before the beginning of the present war.
The contents of the magazine include excerpts from a broadcast by Dorothy Thompson on Winston Churchill, a section entitled “War and the Individual,' by André Murois, Fannie Hurst and Anna Neagle, British film actress; a poem by Jan Struther, short stories by John Van Druten and Diana Forbes-Robertson, and cartoons by Gregory d'Alessio and Arthur Szyk.
The editorial points out that the cost of printing the magazine was covered by the sale of advertisements and that the money received for each copy will go direct to British civilian relief.
