Vintage Minoan DOLPHINS Fresco Knossos Palace Crete Greek Wall Plaque Art For Sale

The original Dolphin Fresco is one of the best-known works associated with Minoan Crete and the Palace of Knossos, reconstructed from surviving fragments and traditionally associated with the area known as the Queen's Megaron. Modern references date the original work to roughly the second millennium B.C.

Original paper label remains on the reverse and reads in part:

No. 505 – “The Dolphins” – Fresco of the Cnossos Palace (Queen's Megaron), Crete, About 1600 B.C. – Hand Made in Greece.

Approximately 8" wide x 6" high based on the ruler photographs. The plaque is roughly 1/2" thick and has an attached metal loop on the reverse for wall hanging.

Condition is very good vintage decorative condition with considerable intentional craquelure/distressing across the image. There is additional age-related surface wear, rubbing, discoloration, spotting and wear around the edges and corners. The reverse has scattered spotting and discoloration, and the original label shows age and wear. Please use the photographs to distinguish the intentionally antiqued finish from actual age-related wear. Display stand is not included.
