For sale is an antique needlework sampler beautifully stitched with an Adam and Eve motif. Featuring Figures a tree and winding serpent. There are also motifs of trees, flowers, buildings, etc. Additionally there are alphabet letters.
Samplers depicting numbers and alphabets were made by young women learning the skills to operate a household as they grew up. Samplers are one example of early American and English female education.
There is a small mark of “02” under a crown with the initial “MSR”. I believe this likely help to date the sampler to 1802, but I cannot be sure.
The frame is newer and I believe the covering is not glass (more like matte finish plastic).
