1890’s Lou Bierbauer cabinet card. Published by Rosser of Pittsburgh. The Pirates attained their moniker by ways of Lou Bierbauer. At the fold of the Players League, most players from the disbanded league went back to the teams they played for before the start of the Players League. Bierbauer decided not to go back to Philadelphia. When the Pittsburgh Alleghenys decided to sign Bierbauer, critics renamed them the Pirates. Card is a little less than 5 by 7 inch in size.
