1899 Hebrew Bible Gilded Embossed Rodelheim Germany Amsterdam For Sale

A striking red and gold Hebrew Bible that although having seen better days, still radiates its beauty. The embossed red cover is stunning, featuring flower decorations along the edges and inlaid flower designs in gold. All edges are gilt. Shows wear one would expect for its age. Please see photos before purchasing; I have tried my best to photo the worst examples of wear. I cannot guarantee I have looked through every single page, but after a thorough examination I noticed the following:Sadly the spine has half separated from the binding, and also shows a dark discoloration. I'm wondering if it was saved from fire at some point in its past. Page 85 is ripped, see pic. There are lots of examples of what appear to be foxing, and most pages show browning along the edges.I was still excited to find this; I haven't found another copy of it elsewhere on the internet yet. Other than the title sheet, this book is 100% Hebrew. Appears to cover most of what Westerners have commonly labelled as the "Old Testament". Unfortunately my Hebrew isn't that great, but I at least can confirm that the first 5 sections are indeed the 5 books of the Pentateuch, and I can also identify Song of Songs, Ruth, and Esther. I can only assume that this copy contains all books contained within "The Prophets", and "The Writings". Some sections do not have the well-known chapter-verse format. I cannot tell if every single section of text is scripture or is a later commentary. The title page says it was printed in 1899 in Amsterdam by a publisher named "Rodelheim". Measures roughly 8 x 5.5 x 1.25 inches (20.32 x 13.97 x 3.175 cm)
