For sale is an employee pass from the A&WP for the years 1955-1956. It was issued to an officer of the Georgia Railroad. The pass, which measures appx 4 x 2 1/2 inches, is printed on medium-weight cardstock. It is in very good condition, with no rips or tears. All writing/markings are from its issuance and use. It shows minimal wear. Description
The Atlanta & West Point Railroad (A&WP) was a short-line in Georgia, operating west from Atlanta to West Point, Georgia. The Western Railway of Alabama (WRofA) served the area from West Point, Georgia through Montgomery, Alabama to Selma, Alabama, connecting with the A&WP. The Georgia Railroad (GARR) operated from Augusta, Georgia west to Atlanta, with several branch lines. Over the years, the GARR acquired stock in both the A&WP and the WRofA, and the three lines essentially operated as one railroad. Through a series of mergers, sales and other transactions, these companies came under the control of the Louisville & Nashville Railroad (L&N). The L&N ultimately came under control of the Seaboard Coast Line Railroad, which merged in 1972 with the Chessie System to form CSX Transportation. Surviving A&WP, WRofA and GARR trackage is now part of CSX.
