Arms Palace Horse Car Company RARE Antique Train Rail Photo AD Display ~19x22”:
$495.00

This listing is for a “The Arms Palace Horse Car Company” antique 19th C Train Rail Photo Ad /Display. This piece is extremely interesting, the kind of rail car it features was specifically designed in the late 1800s to transport race horses to and from the track on the theory this would reduce stress & fatigue. It comes from the estate of a good friend’s father, who had an impressive collection. It features a large original photo (of some kind) of the Horse Car, made by “The Arms Palace Horse Car Company”. Under this is text promoting the company, leading me to believe this piece was used as a framed advertisement, or possibly hung in the company offices. This piece is likely one of a kind, and this may be the only surviving original print of this photo! I believe this photo is actually the base for their original 1890s advertisement, and serves as the photo used in their newspaper ads. I believe it is some kind of photo printed right from the glass plate negative, I am unsure what kind. The design is excellent for many rooms and a large variety of decor styles. It makes this an excellent staple piece for your collection, one your friends definitely won’t have! A great collectors item, for use display gifting or decor

In 1885 a livery and stable operator from Toledo, Ohio by the name of Harrison Arms formed the company to handle these highly valuable animals. Keep in mind- back then a racehorse was just as much an investment as a race car today! Arms' cars resembled the passenger cars of the day; they featured clerestory roofs and end platforms and came equipped with passenger car trucks, as they were intended for passenger train service. The units were segregated into two separate compartments, each containing eight individual stalls. By the late 1880s Arms had acquired two competing firms, Burton and Keystone.

It is in good condition , considering its age. I believe it is in its original frame. I have not take it out of the frame in any way, only lightly cleaned the outside of the glass. Matting has some staining, could easily be rematted, but the piece itself is in very good shape. Ready for display as is, re-framing, or conservation at buyers preferences. Photo & printed area are in good shape with no major stains or fading. See photos for details.

Thank you for your consideration, reasonable offers always considered. Comes as shown, please see photos for details and measurements. Comes insured in shipment, packed with care.
