ROGER MINOTT SHERMAN(May 22, 1773 – December 30, 1844) was the son of Josiah, brother of Roger Sherman. He studied law under Oliver Ellsworth. He married Elizabeth Gould in 1796 and in 1807 they moved to Fairfield, CT, where he practiced law for 43 years, chiefly as a trial lawyer. Sherman served on the Governor's Council and in the general assembly as a judge in the Superior Court.

Sherman is a descendant of the distinguished Founding Father Roger Sherman, the only person to have signed all four great state papers of the United States, the Continental Association (trade boycott with Britain), the Declaration of Independence, the Articles of Confederation and the Constitution.

One-page, 7 ¾ x 9 ¾, Fairfield [CT], Sept. 22, 1842, to Professor [Simon] Greenleaf introducing Mr. Oliver Dimon. “Mr. Oliver Dimon of this town, a young gentleman well educated, of a respectable family, & of good talents & unblemished reputation, has concluded to pursue the acquisition of a law education at Cambridge [Harvard]. He has already made some progress in the Science. This resolution to attest on the able instructions of Judge Story & your say is very gratifying to his friends here. I with great pleasure avail myself of the opportunity to introduce him, with assurances of his distinguished merit...”

SIMON GREENLEAF (December 5, 1783 – October 6, 1853) was a lawyer born at Newburyport, MA. In 1833, he was named to the Royal professorship and in 1846 succeeded Judge Story as Dana Professor of Law at Harvard University. Greenleaf contributed extensively to the development of Harvard Law School. The Simon Greenleaf School of Law in Anaheim, CA, is named after him.

Folds, light toning, a few ink smudges, but very readable.
