This is a Dhokra lost wax cast brass wall hanging from the West Bengal region of India. The metal is pure brass, and it is framed in a tasteful frame with elephants and camels drawn on the matting paper. The backing of the wood frame is covered in velvet, and it is under glass. The frame is 12.5 in x 11.5 in. The art of Dhokra goes back centuries. Essentially, a cast is made in clay and filled with wax. When the molten brass is poured in, the wax melts and vaporizes and the brass is left in its place. It\'s a beautiful experience to watch. This Dhokra is new, in its frame. It was received as a gift from someone who traveled to India several years ago.
