USS New Jersey (BB-62) is an Iowa-classbattleship and was the second ship of the United States Navy to be named afterthe US state of New Jersey. She was often referred to fondly as "BigJ". New Jersey earned more battle stars for combat actions than the otherthree completed Iowa-class battleships and was the only US battleship providinggunfire support during the Vietnam War.

USS Wisconsin (BB-64) is an Iowa-classbattleship, the second ship of the United States Navy to be named in honor ofthe U.S. state of Wisconsin. She was built at the Philadelphia Naval Shipyardin Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and launched on 7 December 1943 (the secondanniversary of the Pearl Harbor raid), sponsored by the wife of Governor WalterGoodland of Wisconsin. During her career, Wisconsin served in the PacificTheater of World War II, where she shelled Japanese fortifications and screenedUnited States aircraft carriers as they conducted air raids against enemypositions.

USS Texas (BB-35)saw action in Mexican watersfollowing the "Tampico Incident" and made numerous sorties into theNorth Sea during World War I. In World War II, Texas escorted war convoysacross the Atlantic and later shelled Axis-held beaches for the North Africancampaign and the Normandy Landings before being transferred to the PacificTheater late in 1944 to provide naval gunfire support during the Battles of IwoJima and Okinawa. Texas was decommissioned in 1948, having earned a total of fivebattle stars for service in World War II.

USS Arizona (BB-39) was the second and last ofthe Pennsylvania-class of "super-dreadnought" battleships built forthe United States Navy in the mid-1910s. Named in honor of the 48th state'srecent admission into the union and commissioned in 1916, the ship remainedstateside during World War I. On 7 December 1941, Arizona was hit by Japanesetorpedo bombers that dropped armor-piercing bombs during the attack on PearlHarbor. After one of their bombs detonated in a magazine, she explodedviolently and sank, with the loss of 1,177 officers and crewmen. Unlike many ofthe other ships sunk or damaged that day, Arizona was irreparably damaged bythe force of the magazine explosion, though the Navy removed parts of the shipfor reuse. The wreck still lies at the bottom of Pearl Harbor beneath the USSArizona Memorial. Dedicated on 30 May 1962 to all those who died during theattack, the memorial straddles but does not touch the ship's hull.
