GTE General Telephone & Electronics Souvenir Desk Clock. This came to us from a local estate, and was distributed by the now defunct company.

GTE wasacquired by Bell Atlantic in 2000, with the combined company renamed to Verizon. The clock has text around the outside of the face that reads: NETWORK SERVICES, FIBER CONNECT, and FRACTIONAL T-1.

The Clock is mounted in a marble base with green felt on the underside. It measures 1-1/2 inches high, 1-3/4 inch deep, and 2 inches wide. The clock face is 1-1/8 inches in diameter.It weighs 7.6 ounces.

There is a little slot under the bezel to assist pulling it out of the base. A stem is visible on the side of the clock when it is pulled out. Pulling out the stem allows the time to be set. We left the original battery in place, but did pop the back cover off to photograph the movement, and make sure the battery hadn\'t leaked and everything looked fine (see pictures).

Condition: Physically the clock is in very good shape. The marble is free of any significant chips, and a couple of tiny flea bites are the extent of wear. The felt on the underside is intact. The clock crystal has a few faint scratches, but looks good to the naked eye. The face is clean, and the shiny gold trim under the crystal is clean, shiny, and presents a sophisticated appearance. Functionally, the clock is an untested estate piece and is offered as-is. You will need to replace the battery, at a minimum, to restore operation. All pictures show the actual clock you will receive.

This is a nice souvenir of the late 20th century Internet and communications revolution, from one of the key players. It would make a nice addition to any collection!
