MR ALE GMAN 4” Patch Adak Airport, Adak Island Alaska~Airport Liaison Agent P106
***Ships with tracking via USPS
ABOUT: This Tulsa Patch was designed taking today’s airport terminal (on bottom) and adding the statue of an airman that is out in front of the Tulsa International
Airport. From an article by GTRMedia
Group: The statue at the main entrance to Tulsa International Airport is by
Robert Weinman, USAAF, and is a 1961 gift from Georgia H. Lloyd Jones. The
inscription reads, “During War II 16,000 young men of the United States and
Allied Nations received flight training at Tulsa Municipal Airport and
subsidiary fields. Of these, 14,000 were trained by the Spartan School of
Aeronautics and 2,000 by the United States Army. In memory of these gallant
gentlemen – and particularly of the scores who lost their lives in combat –
this statue is gratefully dedicated.”
The top of
the patch represents when the USS Los Angeles aircraft carrier dirigible flew
over Tulsa in 1928 after it left Lakehurst, New Jersey en route to Fort Worth,
Texas. It did not land, but it was a huge spectacle for the citizens of the Oil
Capital of the World. The skyline of Tulsa from this time period is also
represented.
This patch was designed by the same person who designed a series of aviation patches for the FBI's Civil Aviation Security Program (CASP) in the early 2000's.
