Listed Philadelphia Artist Martin Jackson (1919-1986) Abstract Expressionist Painting. Oil on canvas laid down on board. Mid Century. Titled verso “Fragmentia”. Housed in the original barn wood frame with woven cloth matting on stacked liner frame. Frame: approx. 25” width x 30”height, wall projection 4”. Painting: sight area measures 13.25” width x 19” height. The frame may have been made by the artist as well. The painting is in excellent condition, there are minor nicks on frame mentioned for accuracy.

Jackson has had many exhibitions, including at the Metropolitan Museum of Modern Art, NYC and the Whitney Museum of American Art, NYC.Please read on for more about the artistThe following information is abridged from a brochure previously published by the Philadelphia Art Alliance : ....Eighteen prizes for his work...exhibited in almost every national show throughout the United States...creations included in the collections of 42 American museums. Such is the record of Martin Jackson, Philadelphia artist. In addition to his prize-garnering work, Jackson taught at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, Fleisher Art Memorial and Allens Art Center. He earned a B.S. in Education degree and a Master's Degree in Fine Arts from Temple University. He also studied with Franklin Watkins and Maxime B. Gottlieb. In 1964, Temple honored him with its Distinguished Alumni Award. Among Jackson's other honors are the First Hallgarten Prize from the National Academy of Design, New York; first prize from the Butler Art Institute, Youngstown, O.; Truman Prize from the National Academy; Guggenheim Fellowship, and a print prize from the Library of Congress. Jacksons are owned by The Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, Brooklyn Museum, New York's Museum of Modern Art, Princeton University and the Corcoran Gallery of Art, Washington, D.C. among others.Shipping & TermsPackages will be sent via Fedex or UPS Ground.
