Sidney L. Poitier(February 20, 1927 – January 6, 2022) was aBahamian-Americanactor, film director and ambassador. In 1964, he was the first black personand first Bahamian to win theACADEMY AWARD FOR BEST ACTORand the Golden Globe Award for BEST ACTORfor "Lilies of The Field"(1963),playing a handyman helping a group of German-speaking nuns build a chapel.In 2002, he was given an Honorary Academy Award,in recognition of his "remarkableaccomplishments as an artist and as a human being".
Lee Strasberg(1901– 1982) was a Polish-bornAmerican actor, director, andTheatrePractitioner.Although other highly regarded teachers also developed versions of"The Method", Lee Strasberg is considered to be the "father of Method Actingin America", according to author Mel Gussow. From the 1920s until his death in 1982,"he revolutionized the art of acting by having a profound influence on performance in American theater and film."Strasberg's personal papers, including photos, are archived at the Library of Congressin Washington, D.C.
