Vintage Officier De La Garde 1786, W.Goebel, 1968 West Germany LF7 For Sale

This figurine, approximately 7 7/8 inches tall, depicts an officer of the Guard, circa 1786, one of the last years of the reign of Louis XVI. The Guards were actually part of the royal household, until they changed sides and helped storm the Bastille, joining the forces of the French Revolution.

The original was made and designed by Gerhard Bochmann, one of Goebel's best known designers and sculptors. Excellent detail and hand-painting. Excellent condition, with no defect of any sort. Note the fine detail of the hands.

Marked with the Goebel V-Bee mark of the time, and 'by W. Goebel W. Germany'. 'LF7' is impressed into the bottom of the base, along with a date (probably 1968 or earlier) and the Bochmann name is impressed on the top of the base, which measures approximately 3 inches x 2 3/4 inches. The base is lettered 'Officer de la Garde 1786'.
